High Quality Insurance – Worth It?
Monday, October 31st, 2011One of the biggest mistakes that people make when purchasing health insurance is to only look at the best policies. These policies are often overpriced.
This is not to say that high quality is bad. You should be insured by high quality companies that have a good financial rating.
Although better policies are better by definition, if you are unable or unwilling to examine a policy to make sure that its cost is justified by its value, you can spend your insurance dollars unwisely. You can wind up with a low deductible policy that cost much more than its worth.
In most cases a policy with a moderate deductible or even an catastrophic AL health care policy will be better options for most people. Being aware of this can mean that you reduce your costs much more than you reduce the benefits of the policy.
Another mistake that people make far too often is to accept their COBRA medical insurance policy without checking out other options. Many who are used to getting their medical insurance coverage through their jobs don’t even think about purchasing a policy in the private market on their own.
This is unfortunate, because the best health insurance policy is often an individual or family insurance policy that one buys on their own. Not knowing this can cost a family hundreds or even thousands of dollars each year. The cost of COBRA is often double the price of other policies.
Making the right decisions about insurance can mean that you go against your instincts. Be sure that you do your homework so that you can make the best buying decision possible
