In a news statement, Twin Oaks, in cooperation with and in accordance with the standards of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), announced the voluntary recall of their Standard and Economy Hammock Stands because of an issue that could lead to a fall hazard for consumers.
This recall affects approximately 2,300 units of the stands that were sold in the Twin Oaks catalog, craft fairs, independent retail stores, and online across the country from December 2007 through June 2011. The hammock stands are crafted from a steel pipe and were available in both green and black. The recalled model numbers, 14015 and 14016, are located in the instruction materials that came with the stands. The recall was put into action after the company found that the foot brackets supporting the hammock could crack and lead to the collapse of the stand, presenting a fall hazard to consumers. Twin Oaks knows of 43 reports where the foot brackets cracked, including a few incidents where consumers fell to the ground. However, no injuries have been reported to date.
Consumers are being urged to stop using the stands immediately and to call the company to get a free replacement set of foot brackets.
As a york personal injury attorney, I’ve witnessed this kind of recall several times in the past and am aware of the potential injuries that can come from the use of a defective product. If you’ve sustained an injury through the normal use of a defective product, contact a personal injury lawyer to discuss your legal rights as a consumer.
