Blasting Calves

Here are some really good calf exercises to develop those stubborn calves.

Add Sets – Add sets are the opposite of drop sets. Instead of dropping the weight at the end of your set, you are going to be increasing the weight. This is a very effective technique, especially for the calf muscles. The calves need to be totally overloaded in order for them to grow. Start with a weight that you can get 12 reps on calf raises. Step off and shake the calves out after the first set. For the next set, add 10 pounds and crank out as many reps as you can. Repeat this 4 or 5 times and your calves will be worked fully. It is part of a fun exercise program.

Calf Raises On A Dumbell – When you are doing 1 legged calf raises use a dumbbell to stand on. The tendency for the dumbbell to roll will force your calves to stabilize your body, along with performing the movement of the exercise. Just be sure to hang onto something while you do this because you may slip off of the dumbbell and fall. You will need more then just muscle building pills.

Incline Calf Walking – You are going to need a tread mill with an incline to this exercise. It is very simple, but it produces great results. Set the tread mill to its highest incline setting, and set the machine to a slow speed. Remember that you are not trying to do cardio here, you are trying to force blood into the calves. Walk for 5 to 10 minutes focusing on pushing up with calves every step. Keep your body at a straight upright position to keep the resistance on the calves.
