Chilblains
Chilblains, despite the “chil”, in the name are not exactly caused by the cold. They are really caused by a too rapid warming up after a body part gets cold. The toes are the most common place to get chilblains, but they can also affect the fingers. On really rare occasions the ears and the nose can be affected. The first symptom is pain, itching and a bright red lesion that is inflamed. Next they become a bluish colour and may breakdown can ulcerate. Chilblains normally heal up very quickly, but it is not uncommon to get a new one every day in the same place giving the impression that it is not healing.
