Different types of spindles
In addition to the plain spindle, there are many types of Door Knob Spindledesigned according to the special needs of various types of door knobs. Drilled spindles for example have a number of holes drilled through them, so that screws can fix the spindle and the round rose door knob firmly together. Threaded spindles have threads on one side where the door knob can be screwed on, while the drilled hole on the other side is used to pass a screw through the spindle and the door knob’s neck. Slotted spindles have slots at either end. The ‘Taylor’s spindle’ has a round end which is fixed to the door and a rectangular end to attach the knob. It is used on a cupboard without a latch, and does not turn.
