Rent first — buy later

Many people are relocating today because jobs overseas presents some tremendous economic advantages — but you can get yourself into a real problem if you take on too many financial obligations, too soon after you have moved. All other things being equal I would recommend that you rent a location to stay in until you have learned enough about the local situation to make an intelligent buying decision on a permanent residence there. Special financing regulations may apply, and as a foreigner you may be required to fill out specialized paperwork — don’t go through all that hassle until you are absolutely sure that buying is the right thing for you.
