Tutoring vs. Teaching

I used to work for one of the top tutoring companies in Virginia. I was a school teacher for many years and after I retired I actually missed my old work, this is how I fell into being a tutor. I wanted something flexible and part time that would work with my schedule. In some ways I enjoyed tutoring more than I did teacher. For one, tutoring is better because you get to know your student on a more personal level, whereas with teacher you know them a little bit in the class but you hardly get to work with them one on one. Another thing I enjoyed about tutoring was the fact that many of the people you are tutoring continue to come to your for support for an extended period of time. As a teacher, it is sad to make connections with students and then see them leave in a matter of a year, but with tutoring there is a longer time to get to know your students. I think this is a useful tool in learning their strengths and weakness academically, and being able to help teach them in the way of their learning style.
